Abundance New York (ANY) is seeking a Policy Research & Analytics Consultant to help the organization create a detailed policy agenda and build a set of data tools to track city- and statewide progress toward policy goals. Reporting to ANY’s Co-Executive Directors, the consultant will conduct research, synthesize inputs from partner organizations, write a detailed white paper on policy recommendations, and work with product and design staff to translate this work into crisp public-facing materials.

This is a three-month, part-time consulting role, starting ASAP. The role is hybrid, with most of the work conducted remotely but occasional in-person meetings in Brooklyn and Manhattan. The compensation for this role is $5,000 per month. While structured as a three-month consulting engagement, there may be opportunities for additional contract work in the future.

  • Synthesize research and policy recommendations from academic institutions, think tanks, government agencies, and advocacy groups
  • Identify relevant case studies from other jurisdictions that could inform New York City and state policy
  • Draft a comprehensive policy agenda and white paper tailored for policymakers, advocates, and partner organizations

Data analysis and visualization (25%)

  • Conduct analysis to determine the potential impacts of policy proposals on critical metrics related to housing affordability, safety, public health, and quality of life
  • Develop high-quality, audience-ready visualizations (e.g., charts, maps, infographics) to illustrate findings for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Create prototypes of dashboards and interactive tools to make complex datasets engaging for broader audiences
  • Collaborate with ANY’s Co-Executive Directors to design data infrastructure that supports long-term tracking of policy outcomes, including scorecards or benchmarking tools for elected officials

Product management and design (25%)

  • Work iteratively with product designer and engineer to turn data visualization and dashboard ideas into interactive tools for ANY’s website
  • Translate policy white paper into clear summary for ANY’s website and public-facing materials

Qualifications and requirements

  • 3-6 years of experience in policy, research, data analysis, or consulting
  • Familiarity with ANY’s policy pillars (housing, transit, climate, and/or good government), ideally having worked on them in a New York context
  • Strong written communication skills; ability to distill complex data and policy issues into concise, persuasive language
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multitask, and manage many deliverables simultaneously
  • Proficiency with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Datawrapper) and ability to design clear, compelling visuals for both technical and public audiences
  • Ability to build dashboards and interactive data tools, including familiarity with relevant programming languages or platforms (e.g., Python, R, SQL, JavaScript)
