Job Purpose

The Consultant Child Psychiatrist (Part-Time) will evaluate, diagnose, and manage a caseload of children through assessment, planning, and implementation of therapeutic interventions (both pharmacological and psychological). They will prescribe treatments or medications to address mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders, following each patient’s needs and in alignment with local regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assess and diagnose children with a variety of psychiatric and psychological conditions.
  2. Perform comprehensive developmental and psychosocial assessments including risk and safety evaluations.
  3. Collect and maintain accurate and detailed clinical records, including input from families, schools, and other involved professionals.
  4. Develop and implement personalized treatment plans involving pharmacological and/or psychological interventions.
  5. Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including psychologists, therapists, nurses, and educational professionals.
  6. Ensure all treatments and care plans are compliant with Department of Health / Dubai Healthcare City regulations.
  7. Provide support to families and caregivers, offering education, guidance, and therapeutic support where appropriate.
  8. Refer patients to external services when required (e.g., in-patient psychiatric care, specialist medical services).
  9. Monitor and evaluate treatment outcomes, adjusting plans as needed.
  10. Participate in case reviews, supervision, and multidisciplinary clinical meetings.
  11. Provide reports or clinical summaries for schools, authorities, or other stakeholders as required.
  12. Maintain professional development through CPD, workshops, and attendance at relevant clinical seminars.
  13. Respect and adhere to strict patient confidentiality and safeguarding protocols.
  14. Support safeguarding of vulnerable children by following internal and external child protection procedures.
  15. Perform other relevant duties as assigned in line with service provision.

Knowledge / Education / Skills

  • Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with postgraduate specialization in Child Psychiatry.
  • Current licensure/registration with DHA to practice as a Consultant Child Psychiatrist.
  • In-depth knowledge of child development, psychiatric disorders in children, and behavioral therapies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially in working with children and families.
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary team approaches and collaborative care.
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience with electronic medical records.

Experience

  • Minimum 4–6 years of specialized training in Psychiatry, with focused experience in Child Psychiatry.
  • Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds, schools, and family systems is highly valued.

Responsibility

Information:
Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality, accuracy, and security of patient records and clinical data in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.

Communication & Interaction:
Frequent interaction with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams. Communications may involve sensitive or distressing information requiring empathy and professionalism.

Safeguarding

All employees are responsible for the safeguarding and protection of children and young people. The postholder must be familiar with and adhere to local child protection policies and report concerns to the designated safeguarding team. Mandatory participation in safeguarding training is required.
