Job Purpose
Evaluates, Diagnoses, and manages a caseload through assessment, planning, and implementation of therapeutic interventions (pharmacological as well as psychological). Prescribes psychotherapeutic treatments or medications to treat mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders, according to each patient’s need and within the local therapeutic guidelines.
Responsibilities
1. Works with patients of different age groups by assessing/ analyzing their mental health status before recommending appropriate interventions to the Centre’s multidisciplinary team.
2. Carries out an appropriate Risk assessment with History taking.
3. Gathers and maintains patient information and records, including social, medical and mental history obtained from patients, relatives, and other professionals.
4. Uses a variety of techniques to assist patients to reach their own resolutions or develops strategies to address and remedy their concern.
5. Works closely with a multidisciplinary team of health professionals.
6. Ensures that the range and level of interventions/ treatments and recommendations comply with Ministry of Health regulations.
7. Where required, assists Medical Director with patients’ admission to mental health hospitals.
8. Orders tests or other forms of necessary investigations to provide information on general physical and mental conditions to attain the best-case management and follow up.
9. Conducts both one-to-one and group counselling services to assist patients requiring therapeutic interventions.
10. Builds a good rapport with patients and delivers effective counselling and feedback on progress.
11. Advises and informs guardians, relatives, and significant others of patients' conditions and treatment with patient consent.
12. Examines or conducts laboratory or diagnostic tests on patient to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorder.
13. Refers clients to other healthcare professionals where appropriate.
14. Maintains a high standard of knowledge in the subject area and continues to be updated with information relevant to his field by attending CPD courses, scientific meetings and workshops.
15. Attends team meetings, supervision sessions and training as required by the Centre.
16. Understands and abides by patient confidentiality as being of the utmost importance as explained in detail in the contract of employment.

18. Other duties as may be delegated in line with the service provision.
Knowledge / Education / Skills
1. General degree in Medicine, followed by foundation training common to all medical graduates.
2. A post graduate specialized degree (Board/Doctoral/ Master);
3. A current MOH license/registration to practice as a Consultant Psychiatrist.
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers;
5. Good computer proficiency.
Experience
• Four to six years of specialized training in Psychiatry (according to the country of origin), including rotations in the different psychiatry settings before completing the rotation in the chosen specialty.
• Completion of at least one year of supervised structured clinical training (internship) sponsored by a medical or post completion of the undergraduate’s medical education; and completion of at least two (2) years of clinical experience after internship training.

Shared responsibility for the confidentiality, security and accuracy of records, data and information. Ensuring good quality documentation, which meets the Organisational requirements Regulatory guidelines and statutory requirements.
Communication & Interaction
Communications will regularly require some judgement involving the seeking and gathering of information with the need for some explanation. May have interactions which contain distressing information.
Safeguarding
All colleagues have a responsibility to protect and safeguard vulnerable individuals at risk (whether children or adults). Colleagues must be aware of local child and adult protection procedures and who to contact within the Local Authority Safeguarding team for further advice. All colleagues are required to attend safeguarding awareness training and to undertake additional training appropriate to their role.
