About the Role

We’re looking for a Senior Product Manager to join our team at Canibuild. This role is ideal for someone who can connect planning schemes, development controls, zoning requirements, overlays and building codes with real product workflows used daily by builders, designers and consultants. You will own the product areas where planning rules, site constraints and regulatory decisions shape the user experience. You’ll work across planning, GIS, engineering, design and AI to turn complex regulations into simple, reliable and scalable product features. The ideal candidate has experience in planning or architecture, strong product instincts, and a passion for simplifying complex rule sets into intuitive digital tools that genuinely help customers make informed decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Planning & rules ownership

  • Own the roadmap for features driven by planning rules, zoning, overlays, setbacks, envelopes and development controls.
  • Interpret planning schemes, building codes and council policies and convert them into structured logic, conditions and workflows.

Feature design for constraints & site checks

  • Define how site constraints, overlays and rules are visualized, triggered and explained in the product.
  • Work with design and engineering to create intuitive flows that help users understand planning requirements without being overwhelmed.

Technical collaboration & rule implementation

  • Collaborate with engineers on data models, rule engines, GIS layers, map interactions and multi-jurisdiction logic.
  • Write clear acceptance criteria that map directly to rule conditions, exceptions and overlays.
  • Ensure rules are implemented correctly and remain maintainable as regulations evolve.

Partner with planning, architecture & domain experts

  • Work with planners, architects, surveyors and internal SMEs to validate interpretations and edge cases.
  • Confirm feasibility and correctness of development control logic before engineering starts.

Partner with Data & AI team

  • Explore how AI and data can automate or streamline rule checks, site constraints, classification and guidance.
  • Validate feasibility of “smart workflows”.
  • Scope PoCs, spikes and MVPs alongside Data/AI teams.

Customer-centric problem solving

  • Understand how builders, designers and consultants work and design features around real workflows and decision-making.
  • Translate customer feedback into better rule guidance and clearer constraint interactions.

Execution & alignment

  • Define and track success metrics for planning-driven features.
  • Own documentation that explains how planning rules map to product behavior.
  • Support Sales, Support and Customer Success with simple explanations and training material.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of Product Management experience in SaaS, GIS, AEC, prop tech or related technical environments.
  • Background in town planning, urban planning, architecture, building design, development assessment, or equivalent exposure.
  • Strong ability to interpret planning schemes, zoning maps, overlays, building codes and development control plans.
  • Systems thinker who can model complex rule sets into inputs, conditions, exceptions and outputs.
  • Experience collaborating with engineers on logic-heavy or rules-driven systems.
  • Experience with (or appetite to learn) map-based products, GIS layers and spatial data.
  • Experience partnering with Data/AI teams to validate feasibility and shape intelligent workflows.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, especially when simplifying technical rules.
  • Strong ownership mindset and ability to operate independently while aligning cross-functional teams.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary, benefits, and opportunities for growth.
  • A collaborative, fast-paced, and innovative culture that values initiative, ownership, and smart solutions.
  • A remote-first environment with global collaboration.
