Role Description

We are seeking a Nutrition Science Advisor to help advance the science that powers GreenChoice’s Food GreenScore® and dietary attribute system. This role is ideal for an experienced nutrition scientist or retail dietitian leader who is confident in applying research to rule-based scoring systems, making evidence-based decisions, and producing concise outputs that can be implemented by our engineering team and communicated to retailers.
 

As a Nutrition Science Advisor, you will:

  • Lead updates to our scoring algorithms (nutrition, processing, safety) based on the latest Dietary Guidelines, peer-reviewed research, and regulatory standards.
  • Define new attributes (e.g., “Heart Healthy”) including criteria, thresholds, and citations.
  • Evaluate and critique existing scoring systems (e.g., Food Compass, Nutri-Score, Health Star Rating, OptUP) and help articulate GreenChoice’s differentiation.
  • Produce concise, implementation-ready documentation (criteria, thresholds, rules, citations) for engineers and customer-facing materials.
  • Collaborate with the Science Advisory Board and Lead Data Scientist while also working independently and decisively.

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) in the United States
  • Master’s or PhD in Nutrition Science, Public Health, or related field
  • 8+ years of experience in nutrition science, nutrition research, food retail, or program development
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex nutrition research into clear rules, criteria, and guidance
  • Strong familiarity with nutrition/health scoring systems and labeling programs (e.g., NOVA, Food Compass, Nutri-Score, Guiding Stars, OptUP)
  • Excellent communication skills (able to brief retailers, write citations, and present findings concisely)
  • Comfort making evidence-based decisions without needing constant data science support
  • Mastery of regulatory frameworks (FDA, USDA, AHA, etc.)
     

Preferred:

  • Experience designing or refining nutrition or health scoring algorithms
  • Experience with startups, innovation programs, or applied research
  • Proficiency with data and statistical analysis
