Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Azure DevOps (ADO) Practitioner / Technical Lead to support the transition to a centralized ADO environment. This is a functional and advisory role, not a development position.

The ideal candidate will act as an ADO subject matter expert, guiding teams on best practices, ensuring proper configuration, and enabling standardized reporting and portfolio visibility across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Azure DevOps, including setup, structure, and governance
  • Collaborate with project and portfolio leads to translate business and reporting needs into ADO configurations
  • Define and guide best practices for work item hierarchy, processes, fields, queries, and dashboards
  • Design and validate ADO dashboards and native reporting capabilities (without relying on external BI tools)
  • Provide guidance on aligning ADO structures with service-based models and portfolio frameworks
  • Support onboarding of teams into ADO, ensuring adherence to defined standards and processes
  • Act as a point of contact for resolving ADO-related queries and providing clear, practical guidance
  • Bridge the gap between business requirements and ADO platform capabilities
  • Ensure ADO is configured to support future scalability and portfolio management initiatives

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) in enterprise environments
  • Deep understanding of ADO configuration, workflows, dashboards, and reporting capabilities
  • Experience designing and managing work item structures, queries, and visualization dashboards
  • Familiarity with service-based architecture concepts and mapping engineering work to services
  • Understanding of Azure governance models and standard practices
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work closely with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Ability to function as an advisor/consultant, guiding teams rather than executing development tasks

Preferred Skills

  • Experience supporting large-scale ADO implementations or migrations
  • Background in program management, TPM, or ADO administration
  • Exposure to enterprise portfolio management frameworks
  • Interest or experience in AI-enabled tools or Copilot-based solutions
