Buy Side Trading Business Analyst

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Technical Business Analyst (BA) to support and enhance their buy-side trading platforms, working closely with portfolio managers, traders, quantitative teams, technology partners, and external vendors. This role is ideal for a seasoned BA with deep knowledge of front? office buy-side workflows, order and execution management systems (OMS/EMS), and trading lifecycle processes.
The Senior Technical BA will drive requirements, solution design, platform enhancements, and integration initiatives across equity, fixed income, FX, and derivatives trading applications.
 
Key Responsibilities
Business Analysis & Requirements

  • Partner with front?office stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document business requirements for trading workflows, compliance rules, data integrations, and UI enhancements.
  • Translate complex investment and trading concepts into clear functional specifications and user stories.
  • Facilitate workshops, process reviews, and requirement elaboration sessions across investment, trading, risk, and operations teams.

Technical Delivery & Solution Design

  • Work with engineering teams to design scalable solutions for OMS/EMS, including order routing, execution logic, trade capture, allocations, portfolio modeling, and exposure management.
  • Support data mapping, API specifications, FIX protocol flows, and systems integration across market data, analytics, positions/holdings, and downstream applications.
  • Review technical designs, test plans, and architecture proposals for alignment with business objectives.

Project Execution & Governance

  • Lead cross-functional delivery initiatives using Agile or hybrid methodologies.
  • Develop project artifacts such as BRDs, FRDs, workflow diagrams, user stories, acceptance criteria, and test scripts.
  • Manage UAT cycles, coordinate with QA teams, validate trading workflows, and ensure seamless production deployment.

Application Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for buy? side trading systems and front-office tools.
  • Support production issues by troubleshooting data, logic, and workflow problems in real time.
  • Recommend process improvements, platform enhancements, and best practices for trading technology.

 
Required Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of Business Analyst experience in buy? side or investment management technology.
  • Deep knowledge of front? office trading across equities, fixed income, FX, derivatives, and multi-asset portfolios.
  • Hands-on experience with OMS/EMS platforms (e.g., Charles River, Bloomberg AIM, Aladdin, Eze, ThinkFolio).
  • Strong understanding of the trade lifecycle, market structure, FIX messaging, and order routing.
  • Ability to author detailed functional documents, data mapping specs, and user stories.
  • Strong SQL skills for data validation and analysis.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

 
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within a global asset manager, hedge fund, or custodian bank.
  • Background with regulatory requirements (MiFID II, 15c3?5, best execution policies).
  • Familiarity with cloud-based architectures (AWS/Azure), APIs, microservices, and real? time event processing.
  • Knowledge of Python or other scripting languages for analysis a plus.
  • Experience supporting trading desks or real? time production environments.
