NextStep connects top consulting talent with high-potential opportunities through smart, AI-powered matching. We partner with ambitious companies across sectors to place experienced professionals in roles where they can have a real impact. On behalf of a client in our partner network, we are currently looking for an M&A Director (Global Infrastructure) to join their team.

About the Company

Our client is a global infrastructure investment and development company headquartered in London, with a portfolio spanning energy transition, digital infrastructure, transport, and water assets across Europe, North America, and Asia Pacific. With assets under management exceeding £8bn and an active pipeline of new investments and platform acquisitions, the business is investing heavily in its in-house M&A capability. The M&A Director will join a senior transactions team and report to the Head of Corporate Development.

The Role

As M&A Director, you will lead the origination, evaluation, and execution of large and complex infrastructure transactions, from initial opportunity assessment and investment committee approval through to financial close and early-stage integration. You will work alongside investment, legal, and asset management teams and be a credible presence in negotiations with vendors, advisors, and co-investors.

What You'll Do

  • Lead transaction origination, building relationships with advisors, identifying off-market opportunities, and maintaining a pipeline of actionable investment targets.
  • Oversee financial modelling and investment analysis, including infrastructure valuation, project finance structures, and IRR optimisation.
  • Manage full deal execution, coordinating legal, technical, financial, and environmental diligence workstreams across complex multi-party processes.
  • Prepare and present investment committee papers and Board-level transaction approvals.
  • Own post-close integration and transition planning, working with the asset management team to ensure value is captured efficiently.

What We're Looking For

  • 10–14 years of experience in infrastructure investment banking, infrastructure private equity, or in-house M&A at a major infrastructure investor or developer.
  • Track record of executing large, complex transactions (greenfield development, secondary market acquisitions, or platform M&A in infrastructure sectors).
  • Deep financial modelling capability, comfortable with project finance, DCF, and portfolio-level valuation frameworks.
  • Strong deal management skills, able to lead multi-disciplinary teams and keep complex processes on track.
  • Sector knowledge across energy transition, digital infrastructure, or transport is a strong advantage.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary of £150,000 – £185,000, reflecting the seniority and complexity of the role.
  • Significant deal-linked bonus.
  • Co-investment and carried interest eligibility.
  • Private health cover, enhanced pension, and hybrid working from the London headquarters.
