The Health Care Worker (HCW) will provide services based on their skills, the basic contract duties, and the following points:

The Contractor must provide anesthesia support services for surgeries and medical procedures that need anesthesia throughout the medical center.

They must make sure all anesthesia services meet the standards set by the Joint Commission, the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians, and the Department of the Navy’s Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.

The Contractor will have trained staff to do many tasks, including:

- Setting up anesthesia machines and equipment in each operating room before surgeries. This includes cleaning equipment according to hospital policies and making sure everything needed is ready.

- Keeping a standard anesthesia cart stocked with all the necessary medications and supplies for anesthesia providers to use in different parts of the hospital.

- After surgery, staff must clean and take away special equipment and make sure the work areas are clean to prevent infections.

- Staff will set up IV (intravenous) lines and pressure lines for special medical cases, like central venous pressure and arterial catheters, with direction from a qualified practitioner. They will also assist anesthesia providers in placing invasive monitors while following sterile techniques.

- In some cases, staff may perform lab tests as agreed with Anesthesia and Laboratory Services.

Staff need to respond quickly to requests for anesthesia supplies and equipment during surgeries, even in stressful situations. When working in places like the Pain Medicine Center, they may need to refill medical supplies.

They should learn how to use equipment like anesthesia machines, monitors, and tools used in the Pain Medicine clinic to check and fix the equipment if needed.

They must understand how to operate the cell saver (a machine for recovering blood) during planned and emergency surgeries.

Staff should be able to reach different parts of the medical center quickly, especially for medical emergencies and in areas outside the operating room.

Additionally, they should be prepared to take on other anesthesia-related tasks if needed, which may involve supporting the department in offsite locations. They need to follow hospital infection control policies and ensure that medical waste is disposed of correctly.

All staff should keep their skills updated by participating in training, seminars, and discussions with colleagues and help train new team members to ensure patient safety.
