**Job Role: Medical Assistant**
Location- Golden Valley, MN
The Medical Assistant helps manage how customers move through the clinic and works with healthcare providers to care for them. Customers can be from different backgrounds and ages, including babies, children, teens, adults, and older adults.
The Medical Assistant focuses on teamwork and carries out specific tasks under the guidance of the Nurse and Provider. These tasks are set by the Minnesota Board of Nursing and the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. The Medical Assistant works closely with the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and Providers to achieve the goals of the customers and the clinic. Good communication with the healthcare team about progress, concerns, and questions is very important.
**Clinical Care:** The Medical Assistant performs both clinical (medical) and clerical (paperwork) tasks to help manage customer flow in the clinic.
Specific tasks include:
- Rooming patients (getting them ready to see the provider)
- Giving immunizations, injections, and medications as directed by the provider
- Collecting laboratory samples
Depending on the type of clinic, the Medical Assistant may also:
- Provide support over the phone
- Help communicate between customers and providers
- Assist with prescription refills
- Perform x-ray duties, if qualified
- Do phlebotomy (blood drawing)
- Conduct clinic lab tests
**Clinic Support:** The Medical Assistant may help with: -
Front desk and check-in tasks
- Ordering and keeping track of supplies
- Assisting with prior authorizations (insurance and approvals)
**Responsibilities:** The Medical Assistant must show they can perform the skills listed in the Medical Assistant scope of practice. They should work to improve their skills and learn new ones as needed. They are expected to take on other tasks to help achieve clinic goals. The Medical Assistant will take direction from the Physician, Provider, Registered Nurse, Clinic Supervisor, and Clinic Manager.
**Compliance:** The Medical Assistant must follow the rules and standards from the Corporate Code of Conduct. They need to protect customer and team member privacy and only access information necessary for their job. They must report any problems or concerns to a supervisor or the Corporate Compliance Officer.
**Qualifications:** -
**Education:** - Must be a high school graduate or have a GED
- Must have completed a Medical Assistant program accredited by a recognized organization (like ABHES or CAAHEP)

**Experience:**
- Previous experience in a clinical setting is needed - Must have passed the x-ray operator exam or be willing to take it, depending on the clinic’s needs.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:** - Must prioritize tasks efficiently. - Must know how to use computer software. - Must be able to travel to different local work sites using a personal vehicle (only for Occupational Medicine).

**Licensure or Certification:**
- Must have current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
