**Position Overview: Medical Assistant**
Location - Minnetonka, MN
The Medical Assistant will oversee the management of customer flow within the clinic and support healthcare providers in the delivery of care and treatment to patients. The patient population is diverse, encompassing various age groups and backgrounds, which necessitates individualized care for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The primary focus of the Medical Assistant is on collaborative, supportive, and delegated tasks. Responsibilities delegated to the Medical Assistant are defined by the Supervising Nurse and Supervising Provider in accordance with the guidelines established by the Minnesota Board of Nursing and the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. The Medical Assistant will receive guidance and collaborate closely with the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and Providers to achieve the established goals for patients, shifts, departments, and the organization as a whole. Effective communication with the healthcare team regarding patient progress, concerns, inquiries, or issues is a fundamental aspect of the Medical Assistant role.
**Clinical Care Responsibilities:**
The Medical Assistant is tasked with performing both clinical and clerical functions to facilitate the efficient management of patient flow throughout the clinic. Responsibilities include executing standard rooming processes, administering immunizations, injections, and other medications as prescribed by the provider, as well as conducting laboratory specimen collection as necessary. Depending on the specialty area and location of the clinic, additional responsibilities may include:
- Providing telephone support - Facilitating communication between patients and providers - Assisting in prescription refills - Performing x-ray duties as assigned, contingent upon successful completion of the x-ray operator examination - Carrying out phlebotomy duties - Conducting clinic laboratory tests
**Clinic Support:**
The Medical Assistant may also offer support in various clinic functions including:
- Front desk and check-in assistance - Ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies - Assistance with prior authorizations
**Additional Responsibilities:
**
The Medical Assistant is accountable for demonstrating proficiency in all required skills and must engage in competency evaluations regularly. The individual is responsible for maintaining skill proficiency and for pursuing improvements as necessary, alongside acquiring any additional or updated skills as detailed in the relevant position skills list. The Medical Assistant is expected to accept other assigned duties to support the achievement of organizational objectives.
The Medical Assistant will take direction from the Physician, Provider, Registered Nurse, Clinic Supervisor, and Clinic Manager.
**Compliance:**
The Medical Assistant shall understand and adhere to established principles and standards. Protection of patient and team member privacy is paramount, and access to related information will be limited to what is necessary to fulfill job responsibilities. Any violations or concerns must be reported to the supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer through established communication channels. The Medical Assistant must recognize and comply with all relevant legal, regulatory, accrediting, and procedural requirements associated with their area of responsibility.
**Education and Experience Requirements:**
- High school diploma or equivalent (i.e., GED)
- Required - Graduation from an ABHES or CAAHEP accredited Medical Assistant program
- Required - Previous experience in a clinical setting
- Required - Successful completion of the x-ray operator examination or willingness to undertake the examination per clinic requirements
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
The candidate must be able to prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Proficiency in utilizing computer software applications is required. Traveling using a personal vehicle to various local worksites is a requirement, applicable specifically to Occupational Medicine.
**Licensure and Certification:**
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - Required
**Certification Requirements:**
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is mandatory.
