The Medical Assistant is responsible for managing customer flow within the clinical environment and supporting healthcare providers in the management and treatment of patients. Customers represent a diverse range of backgrounds and age groups, necessitating individualized care for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations. 

The primary emphasis of the Medical Assistant is on collaborative, supportive, and delegated responsibilities. The Medical Assistant receives guidance and collaborates with the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and Providers to achieve the established objectives of the patients, shifts, departments, and the organization. Effective communication with the healthcare team regarding patient progress, concerns, inquiries, or issues that may arise is a critical aspect of the Medical Assistant’s role.

**Clinical Care:** The Medical Assistant shall perform both clinical and clerical duties to facilitate the efficient management of patient flow throughout the clinic. 

Responsibilities include executing standard rooming protocols, administering immunizations, injections, and other medications as directed by providers, as well as conducting laboratory specimen collection as required. Depending on the specialty and clinic location, the Medical Assistant may also:

- Provide telephone support - Enhance communication between patients and providers

- Assist with prescription refills

- Conduct x-ray duties, contingent upon passing the x-ray operator examination

- Perform phlebotomy duties - Execute clinic laboratory tests

**Clinic Support:** Additionally, the Medical Assistant may provide essential support to the clinic through activities such as:

- Front desk/check-in support

- Ordering and managing the inventory of supplies

- Assisting with prior authorizations

**Other Responsibilities:**

The team member is required to demonstrate proficiency in the necessary skills. Further skills requiring competency evaluation are designated by Blaze Health and are dependent on the specific clinic. The team member must maintain skill proficiency, seek improvement where necessary, and update any additional or new skills on the relevant position skills list. The Medical Assistant is expected to accept other duties as assigned to facilitate the achievement of organizational objectives.

The Medical Assistant takes direction from the Physician, Provider, Registered Nurse, Clinic Supervisor, and Clinic Manager.

**Compliance:** The individual must comprehend and adhere to the principles and standards as outlined. Furthermore, the Medical Assistant is responsible for safeguarding the privacy of both customers and team members, accessing customer- and/or team member-related information solely as necessary to fulfill job responsibilities. Any violations or areas of concern must be reported to the supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer using established communication methods. The Medical Assistant should recognize and comply with all legal, regulatory, accrediting, and procedural requirements pertinent to their area of responsibility.

**Education:** - High School diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED) 

 Required - Graduation from an ABHES or CAAHEP accredited Medical Assistant program 

- Required

**Experience:** - Previous experience in a clinical setting 

- Required - Successful completion of the x-ray operator examination or willingness to undertake the examination per individual clinic requirements.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**

- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks efficiently.

- Proficiency in utilizing computer software applications.

- Travel using a personal vehicle to various local worksites may be required, applicable for Occupational Medicine.

**Required Licensure or Certification:**

- Current BLS Certification 

- Required - Certified Medical Assistant Certification 

- Preferred

**Certification Requirements:** - BLS Certification
