The Certified Medical Assistant helps with patient care under the supervision of the Office Nurse or Physician. This job description does not include all the tasks that this employee may need to do. They must follow any other instructions and complete additional duties requested by their supervisor. The Medical Assistant should show professionalism through their appearance and behavior. It is important to be clean, neat, calm in stressful situations, caring, and to genuinely enjoy working with patients. Emotional stability and the ability to keep information private about the practice, its employees, and patients are also important.
**Job Duties:**
- Take blood samples, give injections, handle child vaccinations, conduct lab tests, and perform other procedures allowed for Medical Assistants.
- Help the physician during exams, which may include taking blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and breathing rate.
- Keep exam rooms clean and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Make and return patient phone calls as instructed by the physician.
- Provide instructions to patients as told by the physician.
- Order supplies to ensure enough are available.
- Help maintain medical records, including completing forms and slips requested by the physician.
- Assist patients in moving to and from exam rooms and getting ready for their exams.
- Support with nursing tasks as directed by the physician.
- Work as a team member and be adaptable to different tasks.
**Qualifications:**
- At least 2 years of training in a Medical Assistant program is required.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical setting is required.
- Must keep certification as a Medical Assistant.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification is required.
**Certification Needed:**
- BLS (from the American Heart Association - AHA)
