**Position Overview: ICU Registered Nurse**
The ICU Registered Nurse is responsible for prescribing and coordinating comprehensive nursing care for patients within the intensive care unit.
These duties are executed autonomously while adhering to established nursing practices, medical directives, and institutional policies and standards. Effective communication with other shifts is paramount to ensure continuity of care; this role also necessitates fostering collaborative relationships with various departments and nursing units. The RN will be involved in educational initiatives, record maintenance, and the advancement of policies, procedures, and staff competencies.
The American Nurses Association (ANA) standards apply universally, complemented by specialty standards that delineate expectations for proficient and exemplary nursing practice. This job description is not exhaustive; additional tasks may be assigned by supervisory personnel.
**Position Requirements:**

**Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR):
** Proficiency in using Allscripts Paragon is essential. -
**Clinical Skills:** Competent in interpreting vital signs and administering injections/vaccinations. -
**Flexibility:** Must be prepared to float between units, including a 2-bed step-down unit and regular medical-surgical or ICU areas. -
**Patient Ratio:** Maintains a patient ratio of 2:1. -
**Orientation and Training:** A hands-on orientation lasting 4 to 6 weeks will precede independent practice, with a tour of the unit provided during the interview.
**Duties & Responsibilities:**
- Under general supervision, the RN will plan, direct, and evaluate total nursing care within a designated unit per shift, consistent with the institution's philosophy.
- Engage in effective inter-shift communication to ensure continuity of patient care.
- Maintain productive relationships across various departments and nursing units.
- Take part in all educational phases, including record maintenance and skill enhancement of nursing personnel.
**Qualifications:**

**Education:** Graduate from an accredited nursing program. -
**Experience:** A minimum of one year in a relevant specialty area is preferred, alongside at least one year of medical-surgical nursing experience. Experience in telemetry and ICU settings is required.
**Required Skills:**
- Current New Hampshire RN license.
- ACLS certification is mandatory; PALS certification is highly recommended.
- Proficiency in rhythm recognition or basic arrhythmia is required; PCCN or CCRN certification is preferred.
- Strong ability to learn rapidly and adapt to changing clinical environments.
- Capable of providing direction to other staff members.
**Additional Information:**
- **Certification Requirements:** Current ACLS and BLS (AHA) certifications are necessary. -
**State License Requirements:** An active New Hampshire or Compact license is a prerequisite for application.
