**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
The following duties are considered essential, although additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.
1. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with established nursing techniques and the policies and procedures of the facility.
2. Prepares equipment and assists the physician during the treatment and examination of residents.
3. Observes residents, documents significant conditions and reactions, and promptly notifies the supervisor, physician, and family members of the resident's condition and response to medications, treatments, and significant incidents.
4. Measures vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and blood pressure, to identify deviations from the norm and assess the condition of each resident.
5. Assigns duties and coordinates nursing services within the resident unit to ensure resident needs are effectively met according to the instructions of the physician, as well as federal and state regulations, and facility procedures.
6. Consults with the Shift Supervisor regarding nursing-related issues and the interpretation of facility policies to ensure that resident needs are appropriately addressed.
7. Reports all complaints or unusual problems to the supervisor, and assists in the completion of facility complaint reports.
8. Participates in the orientation and training of nursing personnel, as well as in their evaluation.
9. Evaluates nursing activities to ensure quality resident care, positive staff relations, and efficient service delivery.
10. Assigns duties and coordinates nursing services on the resident unit.
11. Monitors nursing care and engages with residents to verify that care is executed as directed, and that treatments are administered in accordance with the physician's instructions.
12. Assumes responsibility for maintaining records related to unit narcotics.
13. Inspects resident rooms and the unit to ensure cleanliness and comfort.
14. Responsible for documenting admissions, discharges, transfers, and incident reports in accordance with facility policies and procedures.
15. Participates in the care plan process, accurately and promptly completing nursing assessments and resident care plans for assigned residents.
16. Completes special projects and audits as directed by the Supervisor, Clinical Care Coordinator, or Director of Nursing.
17. Maintains all educational requirements mandated by the State of Michigan to keep licensure current, and attends facility in-services and ward conferences as assigned.
18. Ensures resident confidentiality is upheld, treating residents with kindness, dignity, and respect; complies with all Resident's Rights regulations; and promptly reports any accidents and injuries involving residents to the charge nurse.
19. Maintains regular attendance.
20. Performs all other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
A minimum of two years of experience in Long-Term Care (LTC), Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), or Medical-Surgical settings is required (experience in a hospital or medical center is not applicable).
Travel experience is required.
The candidate must have successfully completed at least one travel assignment as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), which should be noted in the work history.
**Certification Requirements**
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required.
**State License Requirements**
A current state license in Michigan is required.
