This contract position is based on-site in Lufkin, offering a chance to contribute to a vital aspect of patient care within the medical practice industry.
As a Locum Gastroenterologist, you will play a crucial role in diagnosing and treating gastrointestinal disorders, providing high-quality patient care while working alongside a dedicated team of healthcare professionals.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations and assessments of patients with gastrointestinal issues
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
- Perform endoscopic procedures and other diagnostic tests
- Collaborate with other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated care
- Educate patients about their conditions and treatment options
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards
Requirements
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree
- Active and unrestricted medical license in the state of practice
- Previous experience in Gastroenterology is preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to patient-centered care
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR) systems
Schedule: 24-hour call (7a-7a), specific dates
Setting: Inpatient only
Patient Volume: Up to 10 per day
Duties: Rounding, ER consults, and procedures
Case Types: Abdominal pain, GI bleed, SBO, food bolus, ulceration, gastritis, and some carcinoma diagnoses
Required Procedures: Standard GI procedures such as endoscopies and colonoscopies, plus ERCP
Support Staff: Endoscopy-trained GI nursing staff for procedures
EMR: Paragon, switching to Epic
Must be board-certified or board-eligible
