**Job Title: Manager of Patient Care Services (OB/PEDS Unit)**
**Reporting To:** Chief Nurse Executive
**Overview:**
The Manager of Patient Care Services is responsible for ensuring that patients in the OB/PEDS (Obstetrics and Pediatrics) unit receive safe and high-quality care. This person is a nurse leader who communicates well, builds good relationships, understands healthcare, and has skills in leadership and business.
**Main Duties:**
1. **Involvement in Policies:** The manager helps create rules and decisions in nursing and the organization that involve the staff.
2. **Quality of Care:** Evaluates the healthcare provided, respecting patients’ rights and preferences. Takes responsibility for the care given to patients.
3. **Team Coordination:** Works with other healthcare professionals to provide complete care for patients.
4. **Staff Supervision:** Guides and supervises nursing staff, manages their schedules, and makes sure to consider patient needs and the complexity of care.
5. **Training New Staff:** Provides proper training for new employees and gives feedback to help them grow. Evaluates staff fairly.
6. **Budget Management:** Develops and keeps track of the budget for the unit.
7. **Research Participation:** Encourages nursing staff to take part in activities that promote evidence-based practice. Supports shared responsibility for professional work.
8. **Open Communication:** Creates a space for staff to openly talk about problems and seek advice. Performs other necessary duties as assigned.
**Requirements:**
- **Education:** A Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) or a Bachelor of Science (BS) is needed. An Associate degree/diploma is acceptable if you have five or more years of relevant experience. You must complete a BSN or BS degree within 3 to 5 years of being hired.
- **Experience:** Recent experience in Obstetrics (OB) and Pediatrics (Peds) is required. The candidate must be able to work at the bedside and lead during emergencies.
- **Licensing:** Must be a licensed registered nurse in the State of Michigan.
- **Certifications:** Must have BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- **Management Experience:** Must show potential for management or have experience in middle management.
- **Preferred Education:** A Master's degree in Nursing or a related field is strongly preferred.
