A prominent energy service firm specializing in industrial markets is seeking a Project Engineer for its energy and industrial sector.
As a Project Engineer, the individual will collaborate with a team of mechanical and electrical engineers, as well as design drafters, to facilitate the development of Switchgears, Motor Control Centers, and Electrical Equipment Centers. This position requires active collaboration with various departments, including Engineering, Project Management, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Sales, and other functional teams, to foster a cohesive business team culture in alignment with organizational objectives.
**Key Responsibilities**
The Project Engineer will be responsible for producing comprehensive engineering design packages for the manufacturing of Electrical Equipment Centers (EEC), which will include the following aspects: Mechanical Assembly, Architectural/Structural components, Electrical Assembly, Grounding, Low Voltage Power Distribution, Lighting, HVAC, Fire Alarm, Telecommunications, Raceway Systems, as well as the installation of Major Power Distribution Equipment (including Medium Voltage/Low Voltage Switchgear and Motor Control Centers) and Customer Free Issued Equipment.
The role includes performing design load calculations, creating interconnection schematics, wiring diagrams, and cable schedules, and serving as the primary technical focal point throughout the project lifecycle.
The Project Engineer is also responsible for project set-up, ensuring adherence to documentation, engineering, and quality standards.
The individual will maintain an understanding of the contracted scope of supply, the allocated budget, and critical scheduling milestones.
Responsibilities further extend to the development of technical bills of materials and coordination with the Procurement department to facilitate the purchasing process.
The Project Engineer will drive necessary coordination efforts with customers, other engineering disciplines, vendors, and internal colleagues to guarantee the design of a fully functional system.
Leading a team of assigned designers and drafters, the Project Engineer will ensure that all engineering data inputs are provided to promote efficient labor utilization while overseeing the progress of all design deliverables to ensure compliance with relevant codes, customer requirements, and internal standards.
Coordination with the document control department will support the transmittal process of all applicable project submissions.
The individual will create project-specific test plans based on contract requirements and will coordinate with quality and testing teams to support the execution of these approved plans.
Responsibilities also include performing assigned testing tasks from the approved Inspection and Test Plan (ITP)/Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) plan, driving the punch list resolution process, and ensuring that all required testing documentation is accurately completed and signed in accordance with the project contract requirements.
**Required Skills**
- Design of Electrical Distribution Systems (600V, 5kV through 35kV)
- Design of Power Distribution Equipment (MV/LV Switchgear and Motor Control Centers)
- Protection and Control Design
- Substation Automation and Relay Application Engineering
- Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC) Construction Practices
- Knowledge of NETA Acceptance Testing Standards
- Proficiency in AUTOCAD, ePlan, and Solidworks
- Experience with Relay Configuration Software Suites (e.g., SEL, GE Multilin)
- Competence in SKM/ETAP Power Systems Analysis Software
- Proficient in the MS Office Suite and MS Project
**Required Experience and Education**
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five years of experience as a Project Engineer, preferably within the field of Industrial Manufacturing.
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution is required, with a preference for candidates holding a Professional Engineer (PE) designation.
General knowledge of ANSI, NEMA, and IEC standards is also expected.
