**Purpose Statement**
The Maintenance Technician's job is to ensure that food products and ingredients stay frozen and that the buildings are kept cool. This is done through the proper operation, upkeep, and fixing of all ammonia and nitrogen refrigeration systems, as well as freezers, air conditioning, and chilled water systems. The technician will operate these systems, conduct regular maintenance, and repair mechanical and electrical issues. The goal is to help the Company run smoothly and safely while working well with supervisors and co-workers.
Using past training, the technician maintains and repairs the necessary machinery. This includes routine maintenance, fixing problems, and performing other tasks to keep the equipment working well and meeting production and storage needs.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Keeping track of how the machines are running and noting any problems.
- Analyzing data to create a preventive maintenance plan.
- Finding and fixing problems with the equipment.
- Using hand tools and special tools to repair and maintain machinery.
- Inspecting equipment regularly by checking for sounds and reading gauges to ensure everything is working properly.
- Reading manuals and blueprints to understand how to operate and repair equipment.
- Ordering parts and supplies needed for repairs.
- Keeping work areas clean according to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Following safety practices and using personal safety equipment to ensure personal and co-worker safety; always working in a safe manner.
- Following all GMP requirements related to personal hygiene and cleanliness in the workplace.
- Ensuring product safety and quality according to company standards.
- Continuously finding problems with systems by collecting data and inspecting them and knows when to seek help if needed.
- Building good working relationships with supervisors, team members, and co-workers and resolving any conflicts respectfully.
- Working well with the team and participating in team meetings.
- Following company rules and ethical guidelines while performing the job.
- Helping train new team members as needed.
- Using skills in electrical work, pipe fitting, pneumatics, and hydraulics to assist other technicians as time allows or as needed.
**Knowledge, Skills, and Experience**
A minimum of 1 to 3 years of hands-on experience with industrial ammonia refrigeration systems, including vacuum systems, screw compressors, blast freezers, storage freezers, condensers, and chilled water cooling systems is required.
Experience with nitrogen flash freezers and brands like Reco and Frigoscandia is highly desired. Skills in electrical work, pipe fitting, hydraulics, and pneumatics during mechanical work are also desired.
Basic job requirements include good attendance, punctuality, strong work habits, and good personal hygiene. Applicants should have a basic education that includes communication, reading, and arithmetic, likely learned in high school.
Specific training in the theory of ammonia refrigeration and nitrogen freezing systems and mechanical and electrical maintenance of large refrigeration systems is necessary.
Skills with microprocessors and knowledge of electrical systems at 110, 120, 220, and 480 Volt 3-phase AC are also important.
The technician should be skilled in all aspects of mechanical and electrical maintenance for industrial food freezing systems.
