**Scope of Practice for Registered Nurses in Oregon**

In accordance with the Oregon State Board of Nursing guidelines, Registered Nurses (RNs) are responsible for applying the nursing process to deliver comprehensive patient care. This includes patient education for both individuals and their significant others, as well as meticulous documentation of patient interactions and interventions within the medical record. RNs are also expected to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and effective overall care for patients.

**Core Competencies**

- Proficient in reading, writing, and verbal communication in English.

- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

- Adaptable and capable of prioritizing tasks in dynamic, high-pressure environments.

- Effective teaching skills tailored to diverse patient needs.

- Competent in responding to patient crises and emergency situations.

- Proficient in computer-based technology, including internet navigation, word processing, and electronic medical record documentation.

- Dedicated to maintaining consistent and punctual attendance at designated work locations.

**Educational and Certification Requirements**

- Possession of an active Oregon RN license.

- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, required to be obtained by the end of the month following a six-month grace period from hire.

**Experience Requirements**

- Preferred: Recent acute care hospital experience within the past five years.

- Upon application, candidates should have a minimum of three years of clinical experience, with 2-3 years specifically in Critical Care settings.

**Certification Requirements**

- BLS certification is mandatory.

- Compliance with state licensing regulations is required for the state of Oregon.
