**JOB SUMMARY**

The Registered Nurse (RN) works under the Director's guidance and is in charge of caring for patients. 

The RN performs tasks allowed by the Iowa State Board of Nursing. Being present and on time for work is very important in this role.

**SUPERVISOR**: Director of Women and Family Unit

**SUPERVISES**: None

**DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:**

- Taking care of patients in the Women and Family Center, including women in labor, after delivery, after surgery, and caring for newborns and children.

- Checking and noting the physical and emotional states of patients.

- Creating and updating care plans for each patient with the help of the patient and their family.

- Carrying out the care plans.

- Reviewing and updating care plans as needed.

- Working with doctors and others to provide complete care for patients.

- Following doctor's orders using a computer system.

- Recording patient care and how patients respond to care using electronic health records.

- Preparing and giving medications safely.

- Using good critical thinking skills.

- Working with the Women and Family Center team and other staff to give quality patient care.

- Having strong communication and customer service skills. - Performing other tasks as needed.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES**

- Experience in Maternal Child Nursing or Medical/Surgical nursing is preferred but not required.

- Ability to organize tasks and handle busy times. - Good communication skills.

- Focus on helping patients and providing good service.

**EDUCATION**

- Must have graduated from a Registered Nursing program.

**EXPERIENCE**

- Experience in Maternal Child Nursing or Medical/Surgical nursing is preferred but not necessary.

**CERTIFICATE/LICENSE**

- Must have a current Iowa Registered Nurse License or a license from another state that works in Iowa.

- Must have current Basic Life Support (BCLS) certification.

- Must complete Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) training within 12 months (training is available at ORHC).

- Must complete a basic fetal monitoring course within 12 months.
