**Job Description for ICU Registered Nurse**
The ICU Registered Nurse provides and organizes care for patients in the intensive care unit. Nurses work independently, following accepted medical practices and hospital rules. They need to work well with other staff to ensure patients receive continuous care. This role includes keeping positive relationships with other departments, helping with education, and keeping accurate records while updating policies and skills.
All nurses must meet the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards, and specialized nurses have extra standards that describe what it means to be skilled and competent. This job description is not a complete list of all tasks the nurse may need to do. The nurse may also be asked to complete other tasks by their supervisor.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Must have experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) software.
- The hospital uses Allscripts Paragon software.
- Must be able to read vital signs and give injections or vaccinations.
- Must be willing to work in different areas of the hospital as needed.
- This position is in a 2-bed unit and requires floating to the Med Surge and regular ICU units.
- The patient-to-nurse ratio is 2:1.
- There will be 4 to 6 weeks of hands-on training before starting work.
- The hospital will provide a tour of the unit during the interview.
Nurses must plan, direct, and evaluate care for patients on their shift, following hospital philosophy and practices. They need to work well with other staff and maintain good relationships with all departments.
**Requirements:**
- **Education:** Must have graduated from an accredited nursing school.
- **Experience:** One year of experience in a related healthcare specialty is preferred; at least one year of medical-surgical nursing experience is required. Experience in telemetry and ICU nursing is also required.
- **Skills:** Must have a current New Hampshire Registered Nurse license. ACLS certification is required; PALS certification is recommended. Experience in recognizing heart rhythms is required. PCCN or CCRN certification is preferred. Must be able to learn quickly and lead others.

**Certification Requirements:**

- BLS (AHA)
**State License Requirements:**
- New Hampshire
- Compact licenses are allowed.
