The Chemo/Infusion Nurse (RN) provides care to patients following accepted nursing guidelines from the Oncology Nursing Society and the American Nurses Association. Under general supervision, the Chemo/Infusion Nurse helps with daily tasks in the clinic. This includes taking care of patients, teaching them, answering phone calls, helping with scheduling appointments, managing billing, getting approvals for treatments, and keeping patient medical records up to date.
The Registered Nurse takes care of assigned patients by planning, giving, and checking nursing care. They do this on their own, following hospital rules and accepted nursing practices. The nurse uses a step-by-step process to assess (find out what the patient needs), plan, give, and check the care provided.
