Position Summary

Southwest Florida Proton is seeking a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to adult and pediatric patients within the outpatient Radiation Oncology service line. The LPN practices under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and/or licensed provider in accordance with the Florida Nurse Practice Act and rules established by the Florida Board of Nursing.

This role supports a multidisciplinary outpatient Radiation Oncology team by delivering safe, compassionate, and developmentally appropriate nursing care throughout the course of radiation treatment while maintaining compliance with all applicable state regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Clinical Nursing Care

• Provide direct nursing care to adult and pediatric patients in an outpatient Radiation Oncology setting within the LPN scope of practice.
• Obtain and document vital signs, patient assessments, and treatment-related observations.
• Administer medications and treatments as ordered by licensed providers and permitted under Florida LPN scope of practice.
• Initiate and maintain peripheral IV therapy when properly certified and authorized by facility policy.
• Monitor patients for radiation-related side effects, including skin reactions, fatigue, pain, nausea, and anxiety, and promptly report changes to the supervising RN or provider.
• Accurately document all nursing care and patient interactions in the electronic medical record (EMR).

Outpatient Radiation Oncology Support

• Assist with preparation and flow of adult and pediatric outpatients scheduled for daily radiation therapy treatments.
• Support Radiation Oncologists, Registered Nurses, and Radiation Therapists with clinic-based workflows specific to outpatient Radiation Oncology.
• Reinforce outpatient Radiation Oncology patient education as directed, including skin care, hydration, nutrition, and activity guidelines.
• Promote continuity of care across repeated outpatient treatment visits.

Patient Care & Support

• Provide compassionate, age-appropriate, and family-centered care to outpatient adult and pediatric patients and their caregivers.
• Assist patients with mobility, positioning, and activities of daily living as needed while maintaining dignity and safety.
• Address patient and caregiver concerns and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary care team.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Adhere to infection control standards, radiation safety policies, HIPAA requirements, and outpatient clinic safety protocols.
• Maintain compliance with Florida licensure requirements, organizational competencies, and continuing education expectations.
• Promptly report adverse events, incidents, or safety concerns according to established procedures.

Professional Practice & Team Collaboration

• Collaborate effectively with outpatient Radiation Oncology physicians, nurses, therapists, and support staff.
• Participate in staff meetings, training, competency assessments, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Maintain professional conduct and ethical standards consistent with organizational values.

Education & Licensure Requirements

• Graduate of an approved Practical Nursing Program.
• Current Florida LPN license in good standing.
• Florida Board–approved IV Therapy Certification required or obtained within a designated timeframe per facility policy.
• Current BLS/CPR certification required.

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience preferred.
• Experience in outpatient Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, ambulatory clinics, or specialty care settings preferred.
• Experience caring for adult and pediatric patients preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of Florida LPN scope of practice and outpatient nursing standards.
• Understanding of outpatient Radiation Oncology workflows and common radiation therapy side effects.
• Strong assessment, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to provide developmentally appropriate care to pediatric patients.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, outpatient multidisciplinary clinical environment.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to assist outpatient clinic patients with transfers, positioning, and ambulation.
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds unassisted and 50 pounds assisted.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
