Position Summary
The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily shipping, receiving, and inventory operations to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with company policies and safety standards. This role supervises warehouse personnel, coordinates logistics, maintains inventory integrity, and ensures timely movement of goods in and out of the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Shipping Operations
- Supervise and coordinate daily outbound shipments to ensure timely and accurate order fulfillment
- Verify shipping documentation, bills of lading, packing slips, and carrier compliance
- Coordinate with carriers and logistics providers to schedule pickups and deliveries
- Ensure proper packaging, labeling, and staging of outgoing shipments
Receiving Operations
- Oversee inbound deliveries and verify accuracy against purchase orders
- Inspect incoming goods for damage, discrepancies, or quality issues
- Ensure proper documentation and data entry into inventory systems
- Coordinate with purchasing and other departments to resolve discrepancies
Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure system integrity
- Conduct cycle counts and assist with physical inventory audits
- Monitor stock levels and communicate shortages or overages
- Ensure proper storage and organization of materials
Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, and evaluate shipping and receiving staff
- Schedule shifts and manage workload distribution
- Enforce company policies and safety procedures
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment
- Investigate and report accidents or safety incidents
- Ensure adherence to quality and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
- 3–5 years of warehouse, shipping, or receiving experience
- 1–2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of shipping and receiving processes
- Experience with inventory management systems (WMS/ERP)
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment (forklift certification preferred)
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar software
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods
- Comfortable working in a warehouse environment
Work Environment
- Warehouse setting with exposure to varying temperatures
- May require occasional overtime, weekends, or flexible scheduling
