Job Summary

The Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining site safety programs to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. This role promotes safety awareness, supports continuous improvement, and works closely with the Safety & Environmental Manager to maintain compliance with safety and environmental regulations at an excellence level.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive Site Safety programs.
  • Coordinate and participate in internal and external safety audits.
  • Research, recommend, and draft policies to ensure compliance with 29 CFR 1910 regulations.
  • Review and recommend improvements to the site’s safety management systems.
  • Develop, maintain, and conduct drills for Emergency Response programs.
  • Represent the site in interactions with state and federal agencies and industry groups on safety and security-related matters.
  • Lead and/or participate in safety committees.
  • Serve as a liaison with the Workers’ Compensation carrier on safety-related matters.
  • Collaborate with the Safety & Environmental Manager and HR Manager to support the site’s Security Program.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Job RequirementsEducation & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
  • 2–4 years of experience in safety, environmental, or compliance-related roles.
  • Experience in manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial environments strongly preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations, particularly 29 CFR 1910.
  • Experience with safety audits, emergency response planning, and safety management systems.
  • Ability to develop and deliver safety training and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism while representing the company with regulatory agencies and external groups.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and safety-related software (preferred).

  • Ability to respond to emergencies and conduct onsite drills as needed.
  • Must pass background check and pre-employment screening.
