Job Summary:

We are looking for a GIS Data Engineer / FME ETL Engineer with hands-on experience in building, automating, and optimizing geospatial data pipelines for Electric and Gas Utility Networks.

The role focuses on data integration, transformation, and validation using FME, ArcGIS Utility Network and Python based data pipelines.

The ideal candidate will have strong geospatial data management skills, the ability to handle complex network datasets, and a passion for automation, quality, and performance in enterprise GIS systems.

 Technologies / Skills:

  • ETL Tools: FME Desktop / FME Server (Workbench)
  • GIS Platforms: ArcGIS Pro / ArcGIS Enterprise (Utility Network – subnetworks, associations, connectivity)
  • Programming: Python (pandas, GeoPandas, Shapely, ArcPy, pyproj) and SQL (PostgreSQL/PostGIS)
  • Spatial Concepts: Coordinate systems, topology, geometry validation, and schema mapping
  • Data Formats: Shapefile, GeoPackage, GeoJSON, GDB/FGDB, CSV, XML/JSON APIs

 Responsibilities:

  1. Data Engineering & Integration
  • Design and develop ETL workflows using FME Desktop / FME Server for large-scale Electric and Gas network datasets.
  • Integrate data from ArcGIS, PostGIS, CSV/Excel, APIs, and other sources into standardized enterprise schemas.
  • Implement data validation, enrichment, and transformation rules aligned with ArcGIS Utility Network models.
  • Manage coordinate transformations, geometry checks, topology validations, and schema mapping.
  • Develop parameterized and reusable FME templates for consistent integration processes.
  • Handle diverse spatial and tabular formats (Shapefile, GeoJSON, KML, DWG/DXF, CSV, Excel, GDB).

2. Utility Network Data Handling

  • Work with the ArcGIS Utility Network (UN) data model — asset data, connectivity, associations, and subnetworks.
  • Support data migration, synchronization and QA for UN datasets ensuring schema compliance and topology integrity.
  • Collaborate with GIS Modelers and UN Administrators to translate configuration needs into automated workflows.
  • Extract and prepare network data for reporting, tracing, and analytics pipelines.

3. Data Quality, Governance & Collaboration

  • Establish and execute data validation and QA routines for geometric and attribute accuracy.
  • Maintain data lineage, logging, and documentation through FME Server and supporting tools.
  • Work closely with GIS Analysts, Utility Network Specialists, and Cloud Data Engineers to ensure system-wide consistency.
  • Mentor junior team members and promote best practices in FME scripting, data governance, and geospatial data automation.

 Required Qualifications:

  • 5–10 years of experience in GIS data engineering, FME development or spatial ETL automation.
  • Strong hands-on experience with FME Desktop / FME Server (Workbench).
  • Experience working with ArcGIS Utility Network data models (subnetworks, associations, connectivity).
  • Proficiency in Python (pandas, GeoPandas, Shapely, ArcPy, pyproj) and SQL (PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
  • Solid understanding of spatial data concepts like coordinate systems, topology rules, geometry validation etc.
  • Exposure to Electric and Gas Utility datasets or network asset data management.

 Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience deploying or automating geospatial workflows on AWS (S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Athena).
  • Familiarity with data quality frameworks (Deequ).
  • DevOps familiarity with Terraform, or GitHub Actions for workflow automation.
  • Certifications (Preferred):
  • Safe Software FME Certified Professional
  • Esri ArcGIS Utility Network Associate
    • AWS Certified Data Engineer / Practitioner
