The Ultrasound Technologist performs important ultrasound exams and procedures. Their work helps doctors make diagnoses. They work with many different patients, including babies, children, adults, and older people.
The technologist must do procedures correctly and think critically. They need to notice any urgent situations and respond quickly. They also keep accurate medical records for patients and ensure that these records are kept private.
Using hospital computers and imaging systems correctly is part of the job.
The technologist interacts professionally with doctors, coworkers, patients, and families. They have access to certain medications needed for their job. They may be asked to help with other tasks to help the organization reach its goals.
Team members must show that they can do the skills listed for their position and work to improve and learn new skills over time.
For those working in the Heart and Vascular Institute Vascular Lab: - They share examination findings with doctors for urgent cases. - They know when certain exams are needed and when more testing is necessary. - They help patients feel comfortable during exams and procedures. - They help the center get and keep its IAC accreditation, which is a quality standard. - They assist in collecting quality assurance data and maintaining logs for studies and procedures. - They participate in professional development to keep their medical knowledge and skills current. - They are responsible for cleaning and restocking the testing and procedure rooms and must follow all legal and procedural requirements related to their job.
**Education:**
- Must graduate from a recognized Sonography program.
**Experience:** - Preferred experience is 1 to 5 years.
- Must be registered in Sonography within 2 years after graduating from an accredited program.
**Licensure/Certification:** - RDMS Registered - BLS Certification

- Must have BLS certification.
**Additional License Requirements:**
- Must be RDMS certified.
